i have a user that is getting a new ip everytime he connects to the internet.

what can i do in this case? i have admin secure and protector installed but both don't seem to do the job.

That takes place for every 56K user, and everytime a broadband modem is rebooted.

Personally, I'm quite fond of banning entire IP ranges.....then it won't matter how many different IP's he uses (assuming they are all from the same ISP)

well, the problem is that the user is using a very popular isp. so i likely would affect other users by banning the ip range of this isp.

that's why i was wondering if there is the possibility of banning users by cookie, or something.

I believe many gaming sites ban people by the "GUID" which is coded into any microsoft PC and includes the hardware Hex address, ie from it's ethernet card, or modem serial number etc.
I would have thought that there would be a PHP based blocker that could extract this GUID and block users based on that info.
I've been searching for such and option but not found one yet.
anyone any ideas on this ?

Your talking banning some one buy there MAC address? GOOD LUCK! You can ID. some one buy there MAC address. But to BAN them? Do not know if they have that yet? But then the more clever ones will just change there MAC address ---> "16 digit Alfa-numerical First 8 # to the hardware maker last 8 # the hardware its self." just like they change the IP address. Then you run the risk of having 2 mac addy's in the same IP range. Shutting down both of them. Hardware talks to hardware with mac addy's. Software talks to software with IP addy's. For the net any way.

it does not happen, on most providers, when a "broadband modem is rebooted". i dont know why, but the dymanic ip will still be avaliable for the same "modem" even up to two weeks after it has been disconnected.

Hmm i use the protector system and when i ban a user from the locate panel it addds his name to the ban list and bans every ip he will try to use no matter what the range is,
as long as he uses the same name .But that wont stop him from changing his name. It works pretty good for me .. http://protector.warcenter.se/ excelent ban management system .. also has many more features like block or alllow specific users from using modules Page tracker and other good stuff .

peace
