Is there a way to get the forum header removed? The header where it reads sitename:forums.

You know, that butt fugly Forums title box has been bugging me for about 6 months, but every time I start to do this hack, something happens. It's like the Curse of the Black Pearl in 'Pirates of the Caribbean', if you've seen that movie. Remove one piece of code from the Forums and you're damned until you put it back with a blood offering.

After I read your post and started playing around with the Forums, my primary DSL line went dead. LoL! Qwest will be out here to fix it tomorrow. Luckily I have two DSL lines.

Anyway, I did the hack and it seems to be holding. I'm testing it on my production site as we 'speak', so I'm pretty confident it's good. If you want to stick your toes in the water before jumping in:

http://www.lenon.com/modules.php?name=Forums

This one was a little tricky 'cause you have 'titles' all over the place and you don't want to kill them all. And it's kinda nice to have a title on the 'private message' page, so all I did was kill those ugly bastards in the regular Forums pages. All the rest of the titles remain intact on the rest of the site. Here's the code snippet (BTW, I'm running 2.0.6. If you're running an older version of phpBB, you're on your own):

The file we will be working with is: /includes/page_header.php

Change:
Code:

if ( !defined('IN_PHPBB') )
{
   die("Hacking attempt");
}
define('HEADER_INC', TRUE);

global $name, $sitename, $is_inline_review;

$sql = "SELECT custom_title from ".$prefix."_modules where name='$name'";
$result = $db->sql_query($sql);
$row = $db->sql_fetchrow($result);
if ($row[custom_name] == "") {
    $mod_name = ereg_replace("_", " ", $name);
} else {
    $mod_name = $row[custom_name];
}
if (!$is_inline_review & $mod_name != "Private Messages") {
    title("$sitename: $mod_name");
}
    OpenTable();
define('HEADER_INC', TRUE);

//
// gzip_compression
//

To this:

Code:

if ( !defined('IN_PHPBB') )
{
   die("Hacking attempt");
}

//
// Forums Title Killer Hack by VinDSL
//
    OpenTable();

/* define('HEADER_INC', TRUE);

global $name, $sitename, $is_inline_review;

$sql = "SELECT custom_title from ".$prefix."_modules where name='$name'";
$result = $db->sql_query($sql);
$row = $db->sql_fetchrow($result);
if ($row[custom_name] == "") {
    $mod_name = ereg_replace("_", " ", $name);
} else {
    $mod_name = $row[custom_name];
}
if (!$is_inline_review & $mod_name != "Private Messages") {
    title("$sitename: $mod_name");
}
    OpenTable();
define('HEADER_INC', TRUE); */

//
// gzip_compression
//

Pretty simple, huh? Just remember, you will be cursed for doing this... Twisted Evil

Thank you! I'm like a Harley - you gotta kick me to start sometimes... Wink

BTW, if you care, Qwest came out today and said I was drawing so much power on my DSL last night that I fried the transformer. LOL! They're going to have to come out in three weeks and dig up the street to get at it. They tapped me into my neighbors phone service panel for now.

Be warned!

Okay done that but

Now how do I get an image above the forum and the member list that is the same as the style in other modules

what I did to the site was the following:
Replace the place where php ask for a title by replasing that for an image.
This is easy to do at all the modules exept the forum and the memberslist.

I would like to know the exect place where the phpbb inserts the sitename:forums or the sitename:members

Does anyone know?

Great hack VinDSL

However, I am cursed with one minor issue that I cant seem to resolve. When I go back to my main page; the left side block column seems to have a few extra spaces at the top. The right side blocks column sits a little higher. Any idea on how to even them up?

Take a look see:
