Is there a way to change it to accept e-mails with more than one dot after the @ ? It doesn't accept myname@m.kth.se

Also it seems to accept when I register with a hotmail account, but not when I register with my school email which is myname@kth.se

Can you proide more information?
On a fresh install of 7.8 your example E-Mail address worked fine.

Mmm what version are you using? What do you mean by 'doesn't accept', what happens? Any errors?
